Welcome friend! I’m SJ, an award-wining, bright, fun and natural Lake District wedding photographer who specialises in taking wedding pictures that are light, elegant and, most of all, full of laughter! I’m blessed to have photographed many stunning weddings over the years, though I am also honoured to travel all over the world to capture beautiful wedding days too.
I’d love to show you some of the amazing weddings I have been honoured to capture recently. I hope this will make you feel even more excited for your own wedding and help you imagine what your wedding photos will look like.
Below are a selection of my favourite real weddings from around the Lake District:
As I hope you can see by the joy in all my pictures, being a wedding photographer is the best job ever, I love it!
I adore weddings, so combine the fun and family of a wedding with the unparalleled natural beauty of the location and as a wedding photographer I’m in my element!
Why Marry in the Lake District?
Whether you are looking for a manor house wedding venue, cozy cottage or a ceremony with a view, the Lake District has so much to offer for the perfect wedding.
My favourite wedding venue so far has got to be Silverholme as they have the most incredible outdoor ceremony space over looking the famous and stunning Windermere Lake.
Just look for yourself and imagine having your wedding ceremony here and how incredible your wedding pictures would look?
The Best Time To Get Married
If you are considering a wedding in the Lake District, the next most important thing to decide is when! There is one major hurdle when planning a wedding in the UK… the rain!
It does tend to rain here quite a lot (blame those stunning mountains!) so choosing the driest month is often a major factor for wedding couples.
Of course I can’t make any hard and fast predictions but in my past experience I have found that April is often surprisingly dry, sometimes even hot!
The wedding you see below was photographed in May and it was perfect and dry all day.
So if you are looking to maximise your chances of having a dry wedding day, any date from April to June is a solid choice. July and August can often be surprisingly wet, not to mention, the area is heaving with tourists during the summer months and Autumn tends have more rain.
With that said, Autumn in Cumbria is absolutely stunning – so if you don’t mind risk of clouds,
If It Does Rain… Don’t Fear!
That being said, a little rain never hurt anyone and I am up for being as adventurous as you!
If you aren’t afraid to get outside with an umbrella then I’m certainly not either!
The weather is the only thing you can’t control when planning a wedding, especially in the Lakes. But if you are prepared to embrace the weather and make the most of it, then I will be right there with you! Let’s go and make your wedding photos something to talk about!
I have navigated all the perils and challenges of rain on a wedding day (it kind of comes with the job!)…
Not only am I hyper-vigilant about the weather and able to spot potential breaks which we can utilise to create some stunning wedding photos, but I am also flexible and willing to embrace the rain and create some cute umbrella/wellie pictures too!
With almost 10 year experience, I have had the honour of photographing the most incredible weddings and meeting the most amazing brides and grooms.
Although I adore the buzz and beauty of the wedding day itself, and get absorbed in the creative process of making the wedding pictures look so dreamy and film-like, the absolute best part of my job is receiving the most incredible feedback from my amazing clients. Feedback like:
“SJ was our photographer for our wedding and we could not have picked a better woman for the job. The confidence she gave to me as a slightly nervous bride was unbelievable!
The photos she captured felt so natural and we had a really enjoyable few hours taking photos with her. We played some fun games to help us relax, it was perfect! SJ just fits into the theme of your day and is really flexible!
She knows exactly what shes doing so you don’t need to stress about whether you’ll have all the photos you want, she knows exactly who to capture and when and reads the room perfectly.
Couldn’t recommend her highly enough! Almost gutted I only plan on having one set of wedding photos!”
“One of the most important investments for your wedding is to choose the photographer as once your big day is over, you will be looking at the photos and reliving the memories.
I am so blessed to have had SJ as our wedding photographer, her work is astounding and I love all of the pictures! Every single one.
SJ was so much fun and captured such beautiful memories for us, she is a delightful, lovely person and just blended in to our day effortlessly.
I cannot recommend her enough, the quality of her work, the fun and laughs we had and she knew exactly how to put us both at ease, she’s just the best!“
Wow, feedback like this blows me away!
I am so aware that this the most important day of a bride and groom’s life so far, and as their wedding photographer, my presence and conduct on the day can make or break the wedding day experience and the memories afterwards.
I am committed to making sure my brides and grooms have the most relaxed, hassle-free, personalised and non-pressured day possible, so they are fully free to engage with their guests, and each other and have the best day of their lives.
And of course, provide them with their dream wedding photographs afterwards so they can keep enjoying the memories for many, many years to come!
Why Choose Me?
Once you start looking, you quickly realise just how much choice there is!
So many different styles, so many different ways of working.
I want to make sure that if you are considering whether to hire me to be your wedding photographer, that I am the absolute perfect choice for you.
Let me run through some of the key features of how I work, and what to expect from your wedding pictures, so you can feel 100% confident as to whether I am the right photographer for you.
1) Relaxed and Candid Pictures
One of my greatest joys, and biggest focus’ on a wedding day, is capturing totally natural pictures which capture all the fun and laughter of a wedding day.
A picture without laughter just feels empty to me! I love to walk around at a wedding, getting involved, laughing with guests myself and thus allowing me to capture great natural moment which speak of the atmosphere of the day.
Even when it comes to the portraits, I want you to be completely relaxed and able to laugh and have fun in front of me and my camera.
2) An Experienced Wedding Photographer
With almost 10 years experience, I have become very good at adapting and predicting activities and interactions on a wedding day.
This allows me to stay out of sight, but always in the right place at the right time. I am constantly scanning and watching so I can predict what is about to happen and how to capture it in the most beautiful way.
You can also be fully reassured that I have full insurances and have back-ups for my back-ups. I take no chances with such a special day, so you are free to enjoy your wedding day without even needing to think about your wedding pictures.
3) Super Fast and Reliable Service
One of the things I prioritise most is delivering wedding pictures in lightening speed. Within the wedding industry, standard delivery time is 3-6 months, but I will deliver your photographs in just 4 weeks!
Yes, even in peak wedding season, you will still receive this super-speedy service.
For this reason I keep my diary sparse and well spaced out so I can give your wedding day my focused attention and run no risks of developing a back-log of images (which carries other risks, like lost pictures etc) I take no such risks with your wedding day!
I prefer to make sure that your wedding pictures are safely stored, processed and delivered before moving on. I will also likely be beside myself with excitement to show you (and I know you will be dying to see them too!)
How to Book SJ as Your Wedding Photographer
This is where I get excited, each new wedding invitation I receive is the highlight of my day!
I honestly get so excited about each and every wedding I am invited to capture, but being invited to a wedding is always my favourite!
I get to be in my happy place, doing what I love: photographing happy people in their happy place! There is no better feeling in the world!
I would be so delighted to do this for you too and the booking process is super easy:
1) The first step is to see my prices to double check that everything is as you expect and you are confident you will receive and outstanding service and dreamy wedding pictures.
2) Get in touch using the contact form and tell me a bit about yourselves and your day.
I am honoured to received far more invitation than I can accept so be sure to let me know that we are a perfect fit for each other (basically, that you are a fun-loving couple who love to a laugh as much as me!)
3) If I am free, I will email confirmation of the details and prices etc so you have complete peace of mind and know you have made the right choice in choosing me to be your photographer.
4) I take a small deposit and will give you a contract to sign (don’t worry I will go through all those extra details with you in our emails) and then that’s it!
You are in the diary in pen and I will be counting the days till I can be there with you to celebrate your love and create some, hopefully, breath-taking but fun-filled, wedding pictures to help you relive your special day for many years to come!
In the mean time, here is my FIRST EVER commission as a wedding photographer in the Lake District, wow how time has flown – all the way back in 2014. My light, bright, airy style was still developing but I think you can see my eternal passion for capturing life and movement and fun even back then!
Anyway enjoy, this trip down memory lane with me!
I stumbled upon Linthwaite House in the breathtaking Lakes and thought what an utterly perfect wedding venue it was! Two weeks later Darren and Victoria had booked me for the very venue! So, as you can imagine, I was excited about this wedding and it was just as lovely as I imagined!!!
They said, “We just wanted to say a HUGE thank you! We both felt nervous in front of the camera but you made it so much easier for us and everybody has commented on how good you were!!! Honestly, you made our day so easy and were so great to have around!”
